Hmm, What Is Apple Doing?

Apple is so cheap I don’t think it will give anybody 15% discounts on its brand new flagship laptop.

We shouldn’t work based on what we think. Ask and you’ll be given. Don’t ask, get zilch.

OK. @wuqijun you get deals? I can still cancel I believe. Mine is still getting assembled I think. Except for 2T instead of 4T storage, mine is the top of the line.

If your birthday is coming up Best Buy used to send out 10% off coupons via email. I got my iMac last year for 10% off.

I do myself through friends and family program. I ask my excoworker to buy stuff for me. Unfortunately I don’t think I can extend that to other friends who don’t know my ex coworkers. Sorry about that

@manch your reason/s for upgrade?

Is there a downvote?

I am using a 2010 17". It originally came with only 4GB RAM. I put another 4 in, and change the HDD to flash. That was fine until 1) my kid broke the screen ledge so the screen can no longer stand by itself and 2) the motherboard crapped out and I have to take out the additional RAM. 4GB is just not enough…

Great upgrade!

I’ll wait a couple of years… hopefully by then we get the rx580/8gb video cards inside the chasis.

The 2018 MacBook Pro is the most substantial upgrade (at least regarding performance) since the introduction of quad-core processors in the 2011 MacBook Pro.

They ported a bunch of stuff from the iMac pro. The T2 chip is amazing I heard. The IO performance is out of this world. Got 2 more cores in both 13 and 15. And most important of all finally, I mean bloody finally, 32GB RAM.

What kind of programs are you running that need 32GB?

Chrome, duh.

Then no need MBP  since not much processing at client end.

First law of RAM: there’s never enough RAM. The more the merrier.

@manch is running image recognition ML datasets ?

yepp… Google is listening

you have no idea how much of a memory hog chrome is, clearly.

Even i don’t need a lot of ram as most of my compilation happens in the cloud

It sounds like you own shares of a company that makes RAM

Micron and intel are cooking some sort of RAM/Flash hybrid that’s supposed to knock the socks off of NAND storage. That’d be a total game changer. :exploding_head:

I have pretty big spreadsheets and many safari tabs open. I learn to avoid chrome but given 32GB I may give it another shot.

OMG I CAN’T WAIT!!!
