How Is The Circus, Err, Hearing Going?

If Kavanaugh backs down then anyone from here on out can be forced to do the same based on an allegation from anyone else who just doesn’t like them or the administration appointing them. No evidence required. The circus will never end.

If the 7th investigation comes up with nothing new, it will save the GOP in the midterm election. If GOP had plowed through the vote on Friday, it would have felt good for many Republicans. But they will lose big in midterm election as a result.

The losers here will be the Dems. They have miscalculated big time with this smear campaign. It threatens democracy and rule of law. No one wants to live in nation - or wants their children growing up in a nation - where a person can be destroyed by mere accusation. That’s third world stuff. Democrats already had their minds made up but this circus will get a lot of middle-of-the-road fence sitters and the just plain apathetic off their buts and out to the polls in November.
And if the Reps gain seats in the Senate and don’t need Collins or Murkowsky anymore look for Amy Barrett to be the next SC nominee. The Dems have botched this whole thing badly.

Got it. Then Feinstein should resign.

Unfortunately also true… But then people may have to be chosen whose records and behavior are nerdy clean to the extreme.

Not according to the Weekly Standard or her testimony. I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that it was her sister… (does she even have a sister?)

During Ford’s testimony Thursday, she explained that Garrett (whose nickname was “Squi” and who also is listed on Kavanaugh’s calendar as attending the July 1 party at Tim Gaudette’s townhouse) was the only social connection to Brett Kavanaugh and Mark Judge she can recall. Ford said during testimony that she had socialized with Garrett for “maybe a couple months” before the alleged party occurred and that Garrett was someone she “went out with for a few months.” She added: “After that we were distant friends and ran into each other periodically at Columbia Country Club, but I didn’t see him often.”

Why didn’t she name squi as someone who was at the party then? It seems odd she’d go to a party with a bunch of guys she’s never met without him. He would be her connection to be invited, but he wasn’t there.

It does seem odd. Without asking both of them we can only speculate. It sounds like not much happened so perhaps his buddies were moving in. Ford refused to use Squi’s real name – it sounds like she respects and wants to protect him in all this.

@Terri ford testified that she asked that the allegations be kept private and only went public after it leaked

I don’t know why the White House is meddling in the investigation and clouding up the issue

Two sources familiar with the investigation said the FBI will also not be able to examine why Kavanaugh’s account of his drinking at Yale University differs from those of some former classmates, who have said he was known as a heavy drinker. Those details may be pertinent to investigating claims from Ramirez who described an alleged incident of sexual misconduct she said occurred while Kavanaugh was inebriated. Ramirez’s lawyer said Saturday that she had been contacted by the FBI and would cooperate.

So the FBI can’t look into whether BK lied to senate under oath about his drinking.

Just a dog and pony show.

To me it’s not clear who’s the real victim here: a failed rape attempt that allegedly happened 36 years ago which no one can prove or getting your reputation/career sabotaged by someone in a matter of weeks and becoming the joke of the century.

One thing for sure, I now have something to talk to my children about when it comes to how what one does as a kid can still affect your future. I keep telling them that whatever you put on the internet is permanent and can affect your future job prospects, but I don’t think they really get it.

I’m also now feeling uber justified in not drinking or doing drugs at all in college, and not drinking now (which drives my MIL nuts). The folks on my dorm hall were peeved about it (I still don’t understand why they cared except that they felt guilty about their own behavior). Too bad I’m not on some high profile career track for which it would make a difference.

Then Feinstein doubly screwed up. She could’ve mentioned the letter privately to BK way earlier and gotten him to drop out without bringing Ford into the spotlight. Instead she let it leak or she is incapable of keeping something secure. The timing made things much worse for Ford.

Let’s just say that as a woman, I’m pissed, and feel that she’s done a lot of harm to rape survivors. What she did will cast doubts on any and all rape accusations that could result in some sort of tangible benefit to the woman (for example in the workplace or grad school).

Feinstein is either incompetent or incompetent.

Would be awesome if Apple put in some sort of rape detection in the Apple watch. Will trigger automatic sound recording and maybe even dial 911 and text emergency contact.

Billion dollar idea Apple! Run with it.

Totally agree with you. A male coworker talked to me about this case out of the blue to show his support for Ford (I never discussed politics at work in the past and prefer not to). Needless to say, I felt disgusted. Just because I am a woman doesn’t mean I’d immediately side with Ford. I want to believe her but watching her testimony doesn’t help. She appeared to be very absent-minded. She suffers more from what Feinstein did, not what Kavanaugh allegedly did. This isn’t about women’s rights and Ford is no hero IMO.

They should stop casting Kate McKinnon for everything; she’s only good in the Hillary skits :expressionless:
