For 80% of victims it is just the flu. I have two friends than have had it. We need to decide if the cure is worst than virus. In 8 weeks our economy will be devastated. If the death and infection rate has gotten beyond control at that point it might be better to relax the quarantine and let people go back to work or there may be no economy left. I think China is at that point now. They are telling people to go back to work regardless whether the quarantine worked.
Wear masks and spread ppl out more and ppl can go back to work. Hong Hong border customs deals with minions of mainland everyday and who knows how many are infected and they didn’t get infected much

Hospitals have been screaming for weeks they lack masks, gowns and ventilators. Federal government could have used the wartime power to order these be made. No action yet. Even tiny Taiwan is making more masks than us.
You didn’t listen to today’s press conference. They ordered more mask production.

We refer to who? I thought is a forgone decision? Somehow, the decision is to contain it and not just treat it as endemic. From the little info I get, is because the view is the healthcare infrastructure won’t be able to deal with the peak - true or not is immaterial now - so we need to “flatten the curve” is the message.
If the curve isn’t flattened in 8 weeks then we will all be infected on your suggested exponential growth path.

You clearly can’t read between the lines. Trump and Xi’s back and forth are benefiting their own bases but China is fighting a losing battle as the rest of the world are suffering from a virus that originated from there.

I am not disagreeing with your math. But once the max number is infected then the economy needs to be opened up. Mass quarantines will have failed and will any more will be pointless. There will be mass immunity. The price will be a horrific death toll but the survivors will need to get back to work immediately. We will know soon enough.

Mike Pompeo had a speech yesterday grouping China with Russia and Iran.
Italian officials called China a tumor the other day for spreading disinformation and disease.

That’s from 1/30 when the first US person to person case was discovered. So are you saying we should have shutdown the country then?
