How Trump has handled the pandemic

Another antidote from a Facebook friend
She is not counted as a coronavirus victim since she was never tested. How many thousands like her?

“I was ill with Corona virus here’s what I know.

Mar 7 - about 50 friends went to party.

Mar 11 - first symptoms, dry cough, felt fine, thought it was allergies, drove an hour away to visit cousin.

Mar 12 - awoke very ill, dry cough, fever, body aches, exhausted, head pressure/ache, mucous, congestion. Could not stand 30 seconds. Did not eat 2 days. Took OTC cough syrup, 1 Ibuprofen. Called Dr, didn’t return call. Friend who gave party got tested for flu and Covid 19 at his Droffice.

Mar 13 - cough syrup, 1 Ibuprofen, feeling better, much less symptoms

Mar 14 - called Dr, spoke, doesn’t do testing, went to Carbon Urgent Care clinic on Market St. PA said my symptoms at that time did not warrant Covid 19 test. My flu test -negative. Other friends from party were sick.

Mar 18 - friend who gave party result came back positive for CV, negative for flu, 6 days after test. I called my clinic angry why didn’t they test me. PA apologized said they were following CDC guidelines, only testing sickest, as were short on tests. Private Dr office doesn’t have to follow CDC guidelines. Meanwhile they let me walk out thinking I only had bad cold with Sinus, allergies. PA said if I got tested now, virus is out of my system and have immunity for 8 weeks. MAY NOT BE TRUE.

Takeaway - 5 friends tested positive 12 days after exposure and symptoms.

My partner has no symptoms, never got sick.

I feel perfectly fine. My friend who gave party has had a fever for 10 days still ill.

I thought Ibuprofen is supposed to make it worse.

The point of the quarantine is not to reduce the number of infections, but to slow it down so that the medical infrastructure can handle it better.

So, we can let it spiral out of control and be done quickly Italy-style, but it won’t be pretty.
50% of the population could be infected in 25 days?

Or take it slow, so that there will be enough medical equipment, maybe.

Edit: this past week, I’ve had mild fever (1 day), coughing (1 day) sore throat (4 days). 0 symptoms today. I do wash my hands a lot now though, feels like every 30 minutes.

Once the quarantine fails their is no point in trying to flatten the curve. We will know in a few weeks. Meanwhile people like my friend are spreading it quickly because they haven’t been tested.

that’s why you need to tell your friend to stay home, quarantine himself for another 2-3 weeks, don’t be selfish, and wear a masks to prevent from spreading out

Urban myth. I use Advil a lot for migraines.

Nope. Better prepared is not the same as locking down right away. How about making sure our tests are up to snub, or better yet, have a Plan B in case that didn’t work out as it turned out. How about warning and informing the public instead of spreading misinformation like it’s just a flu? How about making enough ventilators and making sure we have enough medical supplies?

Do you equate “getting prepared” as lockdown and nothing else?

BTW did you check WHO’s stance on lockdowns? Since you think we have completely outsourced our public health policy to WHO?

The flu infects 50m a year in the US. Coronavirus is more contagious and lasts longer on hard surfaces. We may slow it down this season. But it will be back next year. We will all get it sooner or later. Even flu vaccines are not 100% reliable.

Looks like you are another victim that wasn’t tested. I bet the number of cases is ten times the reported number. Especially in China. The good news is that lowers the death percentages. Bad news we will all get it sooner or later.
I just updated my will. I am prepared. I am healthy. But I think my chances of getting infected are pretty high.
The sooner the better for the economy.

Quite funny. During FAQ of one of his speech, Trump emphasized that he has been working “very closely” with Italy. Btw, I am not insinuating anything, I have NO proof. Just thought is funny you quote Italy.

Treating it as endemic might be the best course of action BUT I can’t agree because I am unlikely be one of the survivor. Yes, I am selfish.

Just in case you didn’t realize, even without intervention, the exponential would slow down because of mass immunity  That peak of course is not 300 million, we don’t know the number unless put to test :scream:

So you want the president to:

  1. Know better than doctors about the test design (the test design was actually right)
  2. Know better than the CDC about defective chemicals in test kits
  3. Know how much inventory hospitals have and order gloves and masks for them
  4. Order more ventilators even though we don’t have enough trained staff to run the existing ones

You literally want all of that to happen because of 1 human to human case between spouses in the US.

China was spreading fake news about Italy thanking them for sending medical supplies. What thick skin.

Didn’t read as widely as you, presume you’re right. May be @manch can verify that since he reads widely too.

Not to be morbid, but would recommend people who had not done so, or not drawn up a will to do so. I updated mine last week when i showed one of the symptoms. When my dad passed a few years ago it was a mess since he didn’t document anything and had handled all the financials for himself and my mom. My brother, mom and I had to painfully reverse engineer everything and to today I am not sure if there’s something sitting somewhere which we didn’t know of…

p.s. even if you don’t want to do a will, document assets and cashflow and what not. Wifey and I have use google docs so she or I can figure out stuff quickly (in the event of need)

My wife and I already have a quarantine plan if one gets sick. We have designated a special sick bedroom for the quarantined. Food will be placed at the door just like in jail. If we both get sick at the same time logistics are a lot easier.

We are in a strict regime to get healthier. Yoga, weight training and long walks. Plus healthy eating. No real distractions . And nothing else to do.

Do you think you got it from your hospital visit the other day? IIRC you had an appointment…

I have canceled all doctors and dentist appointments. Don’t go to doctors unless you have pneumonia.

Pick your point in time for action then. If not January, how about February? Early March? On Monday 3/9 it’s just a flu, life goes on. On Friday 3/13 it’s national emergency? What about that pandemic task force set up for Ebola? Would have come in handy. And somehow it’s all WHO’s fault and Trump has been perfect.

At least in SF it’s mandated. All non-urgent medical appointments are banned.
