The White House and congressional intelligence committees were briefed on the scope and threat of the coronavirus in January and February, but President Donald Trump has not stopped exports of key medical equipment – a move taken by at least 54 other countries so far.
America’s chance to contain the coronavirus crisis came and went in the seven weeks since U.S. health officials botched the testing rollout and then misled scientists in state laboratories about this critical early failure. Federal regulators failed to recognize the spiraling disaster and were slow to relax the rules that prevented labs and major hospitals from advancing a backup.
So far, most cases on the U.S. West Coast are linked to a strain first identified in Washington state. It may have come from a man who had been in Wuhan, China, the virus’ epicenter, and returned home on Jan. 15. It is only three mutations away from the original Wuhan strain, according to work done early in the outbreak by Trevor Bedford, a computational biologist at Fred Hutch, a medical research center in Seattle.
From data, these three mutations behave very similar to the original one.
On the East Coast there are several strains, including the one from Washington and others that appear to have made their way from China to Europe and then to New York and beyond, Chiu said.
These strains appear to be more contagious, more lethal and affect younger folks more. These strains are spreading to Asian nations and causing more cases and deaths. In Singapore, cases jumped from 100 to 1000+ and number of deaths from none to 5 in less than a month.
A typical he-said-she-said kind of article with no real data. The article is painfully long and wading through with no substance coming was annoying. Journalism at its worst.
So Obama implemented a strategy and it failed. Gotcha.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, CA has released 3500 locked down criminals with no place to go - during a lock down. I can’t fathom the logic . But this is CA so trying to put logic to things is an exercise in futility.
When a reporter accuses the state or the federal officials of misleading the people, it must be backed up by quality and credible information. We have been seeing all this for last three years with Russia hoax, and then Ukraine hoax. The credibility of media is 0 and they have the burden of proving their point.
Good. What about a national security advisor accusing another nation of providing fake data? Need proofs or not?
Anyhoo, you seem to demand that the article to be written like an academic paper with many citations My guess is author didn’t quote source is because it would be heavy to read and many data cited was quite well known. You already felt is too long, it would be even longer if include citations.
Are you telling me you are not aware of those data? Which ones are you not aware?
I see. So we should ignore peer-reviewed studies because they are group-think. Ignore journalists because they have no credibility. We should take what Trump says as gospel because he has “more information”.
I have been trying to figure out if you are some kind of troll or just uninformed but I think I’ve finally decided that you are just largely full of shit.
Which journalists have credibility? Even worse when they find out they were using bad info, they keep doing it or just move onto the next narrative. There’s little effort to set the record straight. The end result is this.
You also see if plain as day with which news tire is are even covered. Active shooter on campus has networks fighting for coverage. Once it’s revealed it was a knife and a Somali refugee, the networks pretend it never happened and don’t cover it at all.
The Clinton administration had a study done that showed guns are used orders of magnitude more to prevent crime and protect victims than for crime. Yet, the news is only full of guns being used in crime. It’s so bad most people think the homicide rate is higher than ever while it’s been on a downtrend for decades.
It’s pretty easy to find example after example where a majority of the public is wrong. It’s probably harder to find examples where a majority is right.
There is no Russia hoax. The entire intelligence community and the senate republican intelligence committee agreed on the finding that Russia interfered in favor of Trump
Again same for Ukraine. The only ones that believe otherwise are the ones that live in the feverish swamp of right wing media
The media ran the Trump colluded with Russia narrative for 3 years. Yet, the investigation didn’t find any collusion. You realize there’s a difference between:
Russia interfering
Russia colluding with Trump to interfere
I’m sure a lot of people would say #2 happened despite the lack of evidence from the Mueller investigation. Those people would be wrong.
Is there anything about that statement you disagree? what you said is to bring up something that is beside the point I made. So I assume you agree with my statement?
The media keeps portraying it as something it wasn’t thus the Russian hoax. Saying Russia interfered is correct. Saying there was collusion is wrong thus a hoax.
I happen to agree with you that there was likely no collusion.
But I think much of the journalism that was done on the ties between Trump and Russia, particularly by the New York Times, was fair and reported largely based on fact. I’m guessing you disagree with that.
To discount journalism as having zero credibility like pandey did – I just don’t accept that. And I find it funny when people discount journalism then start sharing articles from right-wing sites that make no qualms about their slanted POV. Or claim that they don’t believe in groupthink but literally spouts right-wing talking points at every turn without fail.
I guess this is one of the core problems about discourse in America today.
Discourse on topics which have zero personal costs to people. People are much more reasonable when they talk about investments for example. Disregarding facts or logic there would cost people huge sum of money. Not so with politics.
Everybody knows what kind of hysteria MSM created in support of the Mueller investigations.
The MSM said there was no crisis at the border.
… etc…
… etc…
They won’t stop till the elections of Nov 2020.
Btw, both Fox and CNN+MSNBC+nytimes+WashingtonPost make equal proportion of money by pitting self certified intelligent people against each other by doing this. Trump has been a bonanza for them.
