Everyone was proposing paid sick leave for workers unable to work. The argument was over how to do it. Forcing small businesses who had to close to pay it could put them out of business. Having the government do it would be slow. I’m not even sure mailing everyone a check would be fast.
I’d imagine they’d use the tax return info to mail everyone a check.

Not everyone has filed 2019 returns though, so now they’re using data that’s a year old. People move, marry, divorce, die, etc. It’s a starting point but leaves a lot of room for mistakes.
Don’t bet on it. His base is far more upset at the Democrats for politicizing this thing than they are at him for anything he did or didn’t do. The Rim County Republican Club has it’s tent up in front of True Value selling Trump shirts, buttons and flags and registering voters. They’re doing a brisk business. And many of the registrees are there to switch parties.
@manch forgot to check the distribution of confirmed cases and deaths. Washington, California, and New York are red or blue states?

Election is far away, if Trump is correct that this crisis will end in Jul/ Aug, the recovery to election would be spectacularly good, likely to make history.

It’s less than 8 months away. Since US is using the China “shut everything down” strategy, but in a less effective fashion, people should look at how China is doing.

No, Andrew Yang idea was to give everyone a thousand dollars a month. Romney wants a one time payment to help people that are hurt by coronavirus, which would be everyone. It looks like they are going to do it. Both parties have competing programs in congress. They will settle in the middle and call it bipartisan, and trump will take the credit for it.

Corona virus is/was never the threat that certain politicians, media and government agencies made it out to be. Hatred for Trump and desire to crash economy at any cost is the bigger threat. I hope, like Russia, and Ukraine, this one shall pass too.

I don’t understand the lines for TP. Guns and food maybe. My wife remembers waiting in line for food in Moscow. But I just called my gun dealer. Has them in stock in his safe. No lines no hassle. Just the state required 10 day waiting period. Maybe we should require a ten day wait for toilet paper. After ten days you get used to not having it. Like the homeless in SF
