How Trump has handled the pandemic

It is hard to be objective with conspiracy theories either way (for or against). I am no exception. I also read and hear same thing others do. It is a matter of perception and interpretation of situation. So you have a valid objection.

Added later: Almost all fear mongering and conspiracy theory bank upon some unknown. It is easy to create a fear of unknown and create a mass hysteria. People are wired to run for safety so even if there is no real danger from some unknown, its fear is enough to drive people crazy. As we see are happening. I am not tying this behavior to stock market as much because big investors generally know why they are doing and they benefit from panics and fear since they have more resources to profit from them.

You need to read up FIGHT or FLIGHT. Applicable to all animals.

Humans are animals too. We do not use rationality when perceive risk to life. But, the people who tell life is at risk are to be blamed for mass hysteria.

just go to your backyard grab some leaves, it works well

That depends on your attitude towards elderly. Future of human beings is not compromised at all even if we have done absolutely nothing.

Grass is always greener when viewed from afar. I will survive. But this will be as bad as 2008 when I lost half my money. Bad shit is going down in this black swan event and no one knows where it will end until the infection curve flattens out just as Trump says.

All you guys investing in REITS be careful. If the economy collapses there is no safe haven even in rental properties.

The good news was the tenants with the new toilet traded me one gallon of their fantastic home made rum for three bottles of my wine.

The SEC should look into them. To make things worse:

110 million Americans were expected to become ill, leading to 7.7 million hospitalized and 586,000 dead.

President Trump moved from dismissing the coronavirus as a few cases that would soon be “under control” to his revisionist announcement on Monday that he had known all along that a pandemic was on the way.

WH is now trying to deflect responsibility by calling it Chinese virus and China delayed the announcement. All nations outside China get the news at the same time and some nations manage to keep it under control* so the “delay” accusation doesn’t hold water.

*tons of testing, immediate draconian social distancing, aggressive contact tracing, surveillance and mask wearing.

China hid this from the world for 3 weeks and pulled a Chernobyl. I posted the article with a full detailing of the timeline which of course was ignored by everyone.

This is Trump trying to deflect. Many nations able to respond and manage the situation.
Thought scenario: If it is in USA, pretty sure politicians would assess the situation first and have media lockdown to prevent panic till a clearer picture emerged. IMHO, Trump should just admit he underestimated the issue, and move on.

I read it. You timeline cleary show that Trump has plenty of time to respond. Dr Fauci has been beating the drum that epidemic is coming, I recall laughing at his comment since the confirmed cases is very low at 15… is in this forum… I was wrong just like Trump.

Exactly! Trump has plenty of time to respond.

Until this past week he insisted this was a Democratic Hoax and Fake news. Never let anyone forget. He did massive damage with his echo chamber of fox news in basically convincing people to take this lightly or ignore it

Despite the call by American doctors…

The Trump administration, while insisting the risk to Americans from coronavirus is low, nevertheless declared a public health emergency on Friday and announced the extraordinary step of barring entry to the United States of foreign nationals who have traveled to China.

“Johns Hopkins, I guess, is a highly respected, great place,” Trump continued. “They did a study, comprehensive, ‘The countries best and worst prepared for an epidemic,’ and the United States is now, we’re rated number one.”

So prepared that now want to say there is cherobyl?

Many nations were able to respond? Which western democracy has a different trajectory than the US? The graph literally shows all countries are in the same boat. We will find out soon if the lockdowns are working to flatten the curve.

So who’s the example of a western democracy who reacted far better than the US and is on a completely different trajectory?

Now if we want to say western democracy is flawed since people want freedom above doing what’s good for the whole, then that’s getting to a real argument.

Western democracy = all countries?

Anyhoo your claim is Chernobyl cause USA has insufficient time to respond which is not true. Don’t deflect. Thanks.

3 weeks is a significant amount of time. Also, it would have made the severity clearer sooner. Imagine if the US locked down 3 weeks earlier.

All of Europe is on the same trajectory as the US or worse. So I’m failing to see how the US response is so much worse than all those countries. The only countries that have slowed the curve are countries highly value putting the whole country ahead of oneself. That’s not a popular value in Europe, and it’s even less popular in the US.

Yeah, so let’s blame Trump for decades of American values. That’s all his fault. Let’s blame Trump for the healthcare workers showing symptoms going to work at the facility in Washington. That alone is responsible for over 30 of the US deaths and who knows how much of the spread in this area.

Trump is always contradicting the doctors.

The latest example, from Friday’s coronavirus press briefing, began when reporters asked about chloroquine — a drug typically used for malaria that Trump on Thursday hyped as a potential treatment for Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, first cautioned that the evidence that chloroquine will work for Covid-19 is thin:

The lockdown was effective. Doubt 3 weeks earlier would make much difference. Trump has said that he acted early and is effective which I agree.

The current increase is from Europe! which Trump has in one of recent speeches hits out at Europe before issuing travel bans from Europe.

We are talking about the “cherobyl” claim only.

My sister is a doctor and said now everyone is asking for that rx who aren’t even that sick so pharmacies are stocked out / can’t even give it to the people who need it even if it worked.

Um. How many fewer cases were there 3 weeks ago? Remember, growth has been exponential. February, 27th there were 54 cases. Imagine if we did a lockdown then. 3 weeks is a huge difference.

Imagine if countries would have banned travel from China 3 weeks earlier. There would have been far fewer cases outside of China. It would have gotten to fewer countries.

Now even WaPo is blaming China.

@marcus335 Think we have to agree to disagree. No point debating further. IMHO, Trump didn’t feel there is a Chernobyl and I think so too. Behind the scene, there could be political backlash to his claim that Europe screwed up and now trying to change the narrative. Unfortunately, what said can’t be unsaid.
