Private insurers have folded, left or curbed Florida busines ‘We’re all last resort here,’ Miami Beach mayor Gelber says
Unlike similar groups in other states, Citizens is required by law to charge premiums at below-market rates. Its surplus has dropped by more than a third since 2015 to $4.7 billion, according to its calculations, and its overall claims-paying ability is about $16 billion. To put that in context, Hurricane Ian caused more than $100 billion in damage last year, the highest toll in state history.
Anybody who actually wants to move to Florida ought to have his/her head examined. Every year, it is like clockwork with the hurricanes barreling down on you. And some stupid people want to forego insurance? Sure…
If you live in a one story rancher, what on earth is going to happen to you in even a major earthquake? Seriously. NADA!!! Morons in Florida face it every single year and its getting worse. No brainer…
Maybe nothing right away but if the infrastructure (water, power, roads) is trashed for weeks …?
Drink your water heater water and shoot scrub jays with a homemade slingshot - while fending off gangs?
You also have greater fire danger in most of CA. Or a 1-2 punch. Most of the damage for the '06 quake was from all the fires it started.
OMG, so you are going to use the circumstances of what happened in the 1906 earthquake to suggest that that would happen today (uh, concrete jungle here now) and that would be way more likely than obvious evidence that Florida gets HAMMERED every year especially recently??? Ooookay…
