something good there? fish? oil?
Africa is approximately at the same stage where Asia was in 1960s. This is a good primer on opportunities in Africa.
fish and oil is so 20th century. now its era of minerals that directly contribute to producing and running tech. even tools for handyman has lithium battery and bluetooth. people are stealing tools from worktrucks. so they need that extra connectivity.
Plenty of such minerals there?
you can read the DOD statement.
I am talking about Indo-Pacific sea⊠not interested in Africa. Just read the article
so is not about the sea. Not interested then.
The Africa or any country becomes important not only because of how much resources it has, but also because of how many hands and mouth are there to work and feed. Africa will have population of 1.5 Billion in next 30 years. That is lot of hands and mouth (lot of economic potential). Japan is not a particularly resource rich country but a big economy. So is Britain. So, an economy is function of natural resources and consumption by the people.
There is no such thing as Indo-Pacific. what about Indo-Atlantic? There are more Indian emigrated to the West of India than to the East of India.
India is not part of RCEP.
Africa is now so important to China that China took fight with Israel for Arabs (Modi compeltely disappeared from International stage). China will be using Middleast to effectively deal with Africa. Once it control those resources China will become one stop shop for all the minerals commodity exchange.
remember Electric vehicles are barely 1% of market. wait untill all cargo trucks become electric. the demand of minerals will skyrocket.
Wishing and Executing are not the same thing. Quite interestingly, both Israel and India, have become battle ground for the two different belief systems (as opposed to geographies). Israel is battle ground of forces organized around the ideas such as freedom and democracy (as represented by Israel, USA, Britain etc) vs authority and dependence (Iran, Lebanon, and assorted non-state actors like Hamas and Hezbollah) .
Same in India, you have Chinese model of centralized control vs Indian model of freedom and personal ownership. Contrasted with China, you can clearly see India is moving in the direction of charting its own course, and not tie up itself with multinationalism. It is the same question. Why own when you can rent, or vice versa, why rent, when you can own. (neither of the two is logical choice in all the condition). Indian presence in Africa is pretty old. Actually, MK Gandhi was a barrister in South Africa before he returned to India in 1905. Indian people have lot presence in countries like Uganda, Kenya etc.
Also, it is quite possible Africa is (or not yet) shedding its distrust of west. I remember many countries in Afirca were seizing lands from white farmers and hand it over to natives. But, I think, at some-point of time Africa will open up for business to west and others. Will China/Germany be ready to make use of that opportunity? I do not read of (or sense) India is actively eyeing at Africa. But, like in business and stocks, timing is important in geo-politics. Being first in the line is not always beneficial. Just see how google came into search market about a decade after others, but it is market leader in search space. And so is apple, a late comer in phones, handhelds, and operating systems, but it owns a big chunk of these markets and even drives them.
I am referring to Egypt/Saudi/UAE/Oman/Turkey. where Chinese have alot of business presence. Chinese would not have come against Israel if it does not have confidence that it will gain from such policy.
Egypt will be manufacturing hub for Chinese products into Africa and Middleast. Huawei is infrastructure provider of choice. Arabs were among the first that Colonize Africa. now China has joined forces with them. it will further force RCEP countries to deal on Chinese built infrastructure.
Apple succeed because it does not built everything by itself. 50% of supply chain is in China. the rest is composed of SK/Germany/Taiwan/Japan. this is called marketing short cuts.
I dont think Google has dominance in China. the world largest economy.
China is interesting example of how to not do things. Considering that China is ready to bomb Taiwan any day, and has already forced Hong-Kong to submission much against the spirit of handover agreement it singed with UK on transfer of Hong Kong. Do you believe the China will fight for freedom of Palestine? And if you do believe so, do you think the people of Palestine will see China as their savior? I think people of Palestine can see through Chinese moves. They will probably take Chinese money and leave it to that.
.
I called it sharing wealth
Everybody gain/win a little
and hence willing to cooperate.
it depends perspective. countries like Germany appreciate that Chinese system. you have to remember that past 400 to 500 years were just fluke that gave French/British/Spanish/Ottoman empires but not Germany. when in reality it was German that had most powerfull scientific and engineering talent. Germany can only get back into top quickly through China. Russia may have that hidden incentive but we dont know.
Germany has that tough attitude even to the most vaccinated country. you are smart enough to know what that mean.
Chinese are after whole Africa and Middleast. Palestine is small potato. People in India will really feel it once China dominate those regions. you are underestimating Chinese wealth.
that was the deal that got cancelled. in today price well over $1T.
This is trip Franz Josef island. up in Arctic the northern most part⊠place where Europe-Asia shipping lanes in North and all the new energy resources on same transport route as regular shippingâŠ
The trip was with all journalists but the blonde presenter only showed interview with Asians. this give you the idea from where the investment is coming to make it happen. in California it will be called identity politics.
Congo will likely renegotiate Cobalt Mines with China
Although Tshisekedi did not name any investors, there has been speculation he wants to review some of the deals signed with Chinese miners during former president Joseph Kabilaâs administration.
Can you please list a few German achievements you are talking about. This is not to say Germany is weak in science and technology, far from it actually, but just for the sake of putting it in bigger picture. From what I have known of history, most of the renaissance in medieval Europe started from the southern Europe. Germany did have people like Marx and Engels (who mostly worked in England not Germany). And I wish Marx and Engels never did what they did - giving Marxism to the world. The other notable German, I guess, is Martin Luther, and his work on protestant reformation.
Lot of southern Europeans actually grudge that their good work during the medieval times was hijacked by the English people, particularly after the invention of steam engine and start of Industrial Revolution (1760). the Brits conquered many colonies previously acquired by Dutch, French, Portuguese etc. At the language front, English has replaced classics like Latin and Greek. English is the most widely spoken language in the world, with more speakers outside the English countries.
Probably India will fix Twitter (in Indian style) acting as publisher . Something its home country (the USA) seems incapable of or unwilling to do.
normally i will agree with you but this Chinese or by extension Asian wealth is now threat to US prosperity.
US living standards depend continoulsy attracting best and brightest from Europe. now that tremendous Asian wealth and production capacities make best Europeans stay in Europe and make its own deals with Asia.
I am not sure where to start. It is such basic question. Look up Electromagnetic radiation. (The foundation of modern Telecommunication), look at Mathematical aerodynamics. Than look at IBM history.
I am not even going to the obvious people like Max Planck and Einsten, These people didnot come out just in last 150 years. there is strong scientific and technical history behind spanning over hundreds of years.
its one thing to develop a primitive product in lab and its completely another to mass produced on industrial scale with consistent quality and improvements.
Look at Japan history. who taught them modern industrialization.
Chinese are going to play the role that were played by Ottomans and Japanese in prior centuries. but Chinese are too big, rich and sophisticated.
