Push For Universal Basic Income?

Xi can’t even get his chips in order. USA still dominates.

Diversity and freedom win.

Recency biased.
Past performance is no guarantee of future results

The irony is China is becoming more capitalist and the US is becoming more socialist. Thst isn’t end well the the US. Socialism and communism always lose. The end result is people revolt when they are starving.

Sweden and Norway haven’t blown up yet. Polls I have seen suggest they are among the happiest people on earth.

To respond more directly, freedom refers not just political freedom. Other than political freedom, China is now pretty free, right?

The most important diversity is diversity of thought. That need an environment conducive to contest of ideas. Haven’t been to China, but from what I read, again other than political viewpoints, there are diversity of thought especially in technology, right?

China has no freedom of speech. It’s not even political speech I am talking about. It can’t access Facebook, google, YouTube and most western newspaper like NYT.

China has less, not more diversity of ideas.

I can live without political freedom. But without free access to the outside world is a non starter for me.

China would do fine as a fast follower, for centuries.

I think the question is whether you can have first class tech innovation but clamped down in other areas. Like can you compartmentaize into freedom on science but censorship on the arts? So far the answer seems to be yes. China has great innovators, not just followers, in tech. But is there limit to the model?

I can’t imagine something like SpaceX in China. On the other hand maybe entrepreneurs who want to experiment with embryos can thrive in China?

Why no spacex?

National security. China doesn’t want private citizens to shoot rockets.

Has nothing to do with politics. It is their wealth culture and close knit societies. Plus they have less people than the BA.

Absolute fallacy of a mind poisoned by Western propaganda.

Diversity → is Japan very disverse? How come it has won?
freedom → India certainly has more freedom. How come it is decades behind China?

Diversity and freedom means zilch. Most important factor in determining wealth level of a society is intelligence (how smart its people are) and capitalism (the correct economic institution). If you have neither then you better be Saudi Arabia (tons of natural resources aka black gold) or the Bahamas (tiny nations subsidized by Western tourism).

At this rate, I may have to enroll in a liberal arts :hugs: course that talk about what are the critical attributes that lead to economically successful society.

I should be the professor teaching that course.

There are a lot of misconceptions about them. They made their big economic growth as capitalist countries. Then they embraced socialism and growth stalled. Now they are more capitalist than most people realize.

Biggest difference is unity.

Symptom. Not root cause.

What is the root cause? Don’t tell me is intelligence again. Certainly not lack of capitalistic spirit.
Obviously can’t be corruption because is more like a symptom of ineffective leadership.
Remember India used to be a superpower too. What has changed?
长江后浪推前浪,一代新人胜前人.
Could be just normal relevance replace irrelevance, there is no need to analyze too much.

It is intelligence unfortunately. Average IQ in China is 100 vs. 80 in India.

That’s interesting. Some countries have an average barely above intellectual disability (IQ of 70). That would mean a large percent of the country is mentally disabled.
