Don’t pivot. This thread is about SF.
How come SFers always like to pivot? It doesn’t matter what happen to the little spice island, prosper or dying is irrelevant to the situation in SF. This thread is about SF. Luckily I am not staying in SF, didn’t get the sickness ![]()
Because SF is more than downtown. Locals don’t go to downtown except for work. WFH means white collar workers don’t go to downtown for work now either. And yet out-of-town doomers keep lecturing us SF is nothing but downtown.
Maybe get educated a bit first before preaching?
Is the toad still in the well?
Haven’t you been saying WFH doesn’t work and is dying? You claim it’s for lazy losers who will never advance their career. I guess all the SF companies employ those lazy people. They must be doomed.
The reality is too much of your self-worth and identity is wrapped up in SF being special, because you think it makes you special for living there. It’s basically religion.
No, I don’t think living in SF makes me special. I may even move out next year. I just can’t stand out-of-town doomers who don’t know much about the city lecturing us locals it’s dying.
I didn’t say WFH doesn’t work. I said fully remote is not for most companies. Did you read news companies from Amazon to Meta to Apple demanding their employees to spend more time in the office? I suppose they all know less than you in how to run their businesses.
lol, the pro SF people are leaving.
If companies are demanding employees back in the office, then why is SF dead last in cell traffic compared to pre-pandemic baseline? Maybe it’s because the employees are returning to offices that aren’t in SF?
So? Most major cities are below pre-pandemic baseline.
Trend is going up. More people are returning to office. Yes, even in San Francisco.
Here’s the article that you fav’ed but maybe did not read?
Austin downtown is at 49% of 2019 traffic.
Note that most cities are brown dots, meaning activity is still below pre-pandemic level.
Try to get more savvy with data. SMH.
Do I need to circle on the graph where SF is last? Lower on the graph is worse. Now you’re trying to debate that SF isn’t in last place for recovery. You literally posted two different data sources that show it is the worst.
You can circle the graph to see that trend is going up.
I never dispute that SF downtown has problems. Nor did I dispute SF downtown is lagging other cities in recovery. Nothing to dispute. Data is clear.
But people are returning to office, and SF downtown traffic is improving. SF downtown is about the most tech-heavy downtown in the US, and tech is the most affected sector by remote work. Unlike NYC where Wall Street bosses just order people to RTO or else, tech has been more accommodative. But even in tech there’s a slow movement to lean more towards RTO.
My position has always been to acknowledge the current problems, but be optimistic about where the trend is taking us. Things are improving despite all the out-of-town doomers’ saying SF is dead.
And SF is more than downtown. People saying SF is all about downtown knows nothing about SF.
You can spin last place all you want. It’s still last place. Participation trophies for everyone!
The point was more that despite the CURRENT state of the city, the city is still moving along positively, meaning people ARE still coming to the city even for a simple Sunday concert like this. No pivot. I just don’t like takes that honestly have no real merit. We already acknowledge that the city has a history of boom and bust, but it has always survived. It survived a massive earthquake and fire for god’s sake that literally physically wiped out the majority of the city!!! All we have here, is a masse exodus of retailers. Yes, a problem probably seen by many cities in their respective downtowns. We just need to evolve and adapt. Again, too much money here for the city to actually die.
And, I agree, it didn’t help when freaking outsiders come to our waterfront and have a shootout but we are a tourist and convention town. As long as people still come for pleasure or business, we just need to fix a few problems. Like I said before, let’s just see a lot more police out in the streets. That is what I saw in NY recently and we need that here.
one common thing I observe from this forum and outside is ppl who never lived in SF or CA have more strong opinion/ panicky than actual ppl living in SF!
Because these out of town doomers hate to see a successful San Francisco. It’s opposite of what they preach. It’s diverse - highest portion of Asians among major cities. Its tolerant - gay people used to come here to escape persecution from their own towns. And yet it’s successful. The number one tech hub in the world.
How can that be? Cities like San Francisco should be punished for their moral failings. There is always a moral angle to the doomers’ criticism. And they all come out in droves to pounce on a city low on its luck currently.
BINGO! Its like those folks who missed out on low mortgages or sub $1M homes and then they wish a massive, destructive earthquake of all things would come to give them another chance. What losers!!! You are wishing massive death and destruction because you want a cheap house? Ok. I hope your resume is decent when you are at the front of the pearly gates…
Interesting I read ppl are leaving SF and CA, and CA has lost 2 Congressional seats as a result. But reading here it seems the data is wrong … and only people who have NOT lived in SF or CA are critical of it and have left SF and CA(if that’s possible)
I guess you learn something “new” everyday.
Feelings > Data
It’s literally religion. That or discussing Barry Bonds and PED usage with a SF Giants fan. The guy took PEDs. The court documents proved that, and it wasn’t even debated in court. The debate was over whether he knew they were PEDs.
Oh, you had to go there…
First of all, Barry was already a shoo in for the HOF before he supposedly took PEDS. Yes, he may have made a huge mistake but if you want to look at someone’s overall body of work, he deserves in. Period. The ONLY reason why he is not in the HOF is simply because he rubbed the reporters wrong and so they are holding that against him. This, is fact. Do we really need to discuss how racist a lot of the voting media members are?
Secondly, tell me how David Ortiz got in when he DID test positive for PEDS then? The only reason why he got in was because he was relatively friendly with the media. David couldn’t hold Bonds’ jock strap…
Thank you for proving my point. Whether or not he took PEDs isn’t up for debate, it’s a matter of public record in court. Yet, you say he supposedly took PEDs. Lol.
The change in his hat size is also documented. That doesn’t happen in adults in their 30s without taking massive quantities of HGH. There’s no urine test for HGH, and baseball only did urine testing.
When did Ramirez get in? Palmeiro hasn’t. Clemens hasn’t. McGwire hasn’t. I don’t see how you can claim it’s racist. Now you’re just proving how irrational the Bonds topic is.
Data says more $200k+ income households are leaving CA than moving to it. That busts the narrative that i’s only low income people leaving, and they are being replaced by higher incomes. I can’t wait to see 2021 data knowing that’s when SFs population decline accelerated. At this point, the only counter argument is the data doesn’t matter or a bunch of other BS about feelings.
What are their criteria?
