That’s replay of the 70s for y’all hyperinflationists.
The stock market believes in inflation too. Running scared.
Stock market thinks ahead.
@manch lags. By the time he is convinced that inflation is here, inflation might have ended. @manch is riding a horse out of sync.
So much inflation that the 10 year treasury is at a whopping 1.6%.
Imagine sweating over 1.6%.

Think ahead… not current… this is what I call lagging.
Bond traders thinking ahead 10 years, who think about this stuff day in day out, is not long enough ahead for you?
Bond traders are not stock market traders.
Gas issues are due to hackers taking a pipeline offline. It transports 45% of the East coast’s fuel. Basically, this is the future liberals want, since they don’t want pipelines.
At this point, more stimulus and money printing isn’t going to help anything. The economy is constrained by supply shortages. More money won’t make it grow faster. It’ll only make prices increase even more than they are due to shortages. Of course, the government has zero understanding of the issue or how to fix it. Businesses will fix it.
“Asset inflation” is not a thing. Dogecoin going 10x in a month doesn’t mean much in the broad scheme of things.
We have a lot of pandemic-specific short term issues to undo before there’s any legitimate reason to scream “secular inflation”. Many factories are still operating at reduced capacity due to Covid. School and childcare closures means one of the two parents can’t go back to full time work yet. These types of transitory imbalances will resolve themselves before long.
Yeah these are less sexy than blaming everything on the Fed. Everybody loves playing armchair central bankers.
And where would it be if the Fed wasn’t a buyer?
Tell me about supply shortages. I just walked home from an auto shop after getting a flat a half mile from my house. Good thing I have two cars. The owner has no idea when he will be able to get a replacement tire. Since my spare will go flat in a day or two I just left the car at the shop - with all the rest waiting for parts. Some have been there over a month now.
The shop owner asked me what I did. I told him I’m retired and I chase around the mountains and deserts. He shrugged, looked out at his pile of cars waiting for parts and said “I just sit here all day and make excuses to customers.”
Roubini(aka dr. doom/check_google for his nickname) has been crying the sky is falling since 2009. Someday he will be right again he hopes
It is consistent with the understanding that inflation leads to deflation and deflation leads to inflation. The economy is cyclical. What the economists believing in Keynesians and MMT hope is to get rid of deflation from economics. Inflation and Deflation, and growth, and contraction are part of the parcel of economic living and we must embrace them.
About 10 years ago, I remember reading John Mauldin making similar arguments. Even in countries that have gone through hyperinflation, eventually, deflate (due to several reasons like economic or monetary breakdown). Here deflation should not be assumed to mean that McChicken will start selling for $1 again. And we can get a room in Motel 6 for $6 again.
But the damage done to the savers and lenders is not undone.
That is the sorry part of the entire story. Some losses are permanent.
Don’t Be Fooled by April’s Inflation Jump. It’s Being Driven by Reopening Quirks.
We may have “secular inflation” instead of the transitory sort, but there isn’t enough data to support that claim right now. Wait until we have full employment then we can make a better judgement. At north of 6% unemployment it’s hard to argue we have full blown inflation at our hands.
