This altercation supports my idea that if California were an independent country out of the USA, without the protection of the American constitution, legal , and economic ethos, it would be the 7th economy from the bottom.
That’s fine. This is a free country and America is big. Elon can go anywhere he wants. But if he thinks he’s bigger than anybody and above the law, sorry to have his balloon popped. Our economy is (a lot) bigger than a car factory. I don’t appreciate the corporate blackmail.
See ya.
The next factory will never be in California anyways. Deep South states are great places for factories. As for HQ, Texas is always attractive, Maybe @hanera 's Austin? lol
There is a precedent. Toyota moved its US headquarters from Los Angeles Area to Texas a few years ago. One reason Toyota first chose LA for its corporate US headquarters is that it was the single biggest car market back then. I think it (LA) still is.
I’m aware. Other automakers moved their HQ out of LA area too.
The lines from the article I linked are worth a look:
Frank Scotto, Torrance’s mayor, said he had no warning of Toyota’s decision. He said he did know that the automaker planned a corporate announcement for Monday.
“When any major corporation is courted by another state, it’s very difficult to combat that,” Scotto said. “We don’t have the tools we need to keep major corporations here.”
The mayor said businesses bear higher costs in California for workers’ compensation and liability insurance, among other expenses.
“A company can easily see where it would benefit by relocating someplace else,” Scotto said.
It shows how some California government working meaning less way. Not good in the long run, California needs change !
Elon is Dr Evil. He wants to implant a neuron transmitter in everyone.
While Musk characterized Pan as “ignorant,” the doctor has deep experience in both public health and infectious diseases.
Among other things, Pan is a graduate of Tufts medical school, completed a residency and fellowship at UCSF and has worked at Alameda County Public Health Department since 2011 while also working as a physician and professor. She previously worked for six years as the Director of Bioterrorism and Infectious Disease Emergencies at San Francisco Public Health Department, according to her resume on LinkedIn.
Previously, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO cursed and called Covid-19 health orders “fascist,” on a Tesla earnings call. He also erroneously stated that children are “essentially immune” to Covid-19, among other controversial tweets about the novel coronavirus and governments’ efforts to deal with the pandemic.
Musk also said preparing for Corona is stupid, that everybody will be cured by April, and pumped Trump’s miracle pills. Can’t wait he moves Tesla HQ to Texas or wherever. This guy is garbage.
He is not getting enough sleep, cuz his newborn baby is keeping him awake.
Another non-Chinese company drinking the Chinese market is HUGGGEEEEE koolaid.
The accountant quoted in the article is giving really bad advice. People tried that in the dot com era. Doesn’t work. Way California (and quite a few other states work) is that you have to pay the taxes for the options that vested while you were a resident when you exercise them (even if at the time of exercise you are a resident of another state). You are going to pay your state taxes as it’s considered income you earned during the time you were resident (the vesting period). so if Musk has a 3 year vest on the latest grant, and moves to Nevada immediately, it takes 1 year to establish residency. He will still have to pay taxes on the first year of vested stock at the time he exercises to CA.
TL:DR; don’t hire the accountants quoted in the article.
Wouldn’t they get the enhanced unemployment?
