The problem is not lack of visibility of true level of taxation. But, that fact that a large number of people have been convinced that high level of taxation is good for them and economy. For them higher the taxation, better for economy.
It’s even worse when they can’t see the actual cost. Just look at healthcare which people have no idea how much is actually paid for their monthly premiums or how much is actually paid for services. People complain about slowing wage increases and don’t realize how much healthcare premium increases eat into that.
The New York Times lies as usual. I have heard that a Tesla 3 costs $55k not $41.
The Tesla Model 3 and the gas-powered BMW 3 Series both sell for about $41,000 in the United States”
But insurance is double the cost
The Standard Range model is the most affordable option, but the Performance version can cost nearly $60,000. Insurance rates for the Model 3 are also incredibly high according to NerdWallet – as much as $2,215 per year.
Here is a used one for $49k

Another used one $52k

The model 3 starts at $38k:

A 3-series starts at $41k:

Sure, you can spend more on either, but the base price is about the same (slight edge to Tesla).
Base price models are never available plus they nickel and dime you for extras like delivery fees. Find a cheap one. Let us know. Plus they have BS $4300 ( for how many years?) gas savings factored in. Plus you have to have a charger installed in your garage.
Charger costs $1000 plus installation
“I just had it installed, along with the 80 feet of. New line underground, New panel. And 25 new breakers, etc. Can post pictures. I paid 2750“
Electricians in the BA are $150/hr plus permits
And with PGE your electric bill is going up a lot.
Nobody is buying a Tesla to save money or be green.
If you were. you’d buy a used Prius for $10k.
It is strictly for techies that want to look cool. 2% of the buying public.
Last time I checked TSLA model 3 lease priced as competitive as Chev Bolt. I have got the charger $350 (at costco siemens) and installed it for $350 (local electricians).
The electricity cost/month was $40 (max)/month with $0.12 per unit EV Rate. Savings on gas alone $350/month, and I paid $14500 for 3 years upfront lease ( $402/month for 15000 miles). I used 42000 out of 45000 pre-Covid before returning the lease. This may be less for 12000 miles.
When Covid WFH is removed, I may need EV car again for 101-hwy commute and will go for Model 3. EV car is very economical for local commute.
GM is coming with all new models EVs from 2023 onwards.
This model will come for $349 or $299 during thanksgiving sale

Unlike other manufacturers, base Tesla models are actually available. Loud and clear on their website…you’ll be driving it in 1–2 weeks…I know having ordered one. $38k base price does not factor in gas savings (which I agree is a BS way to think about it). You can even get a $35k stripper model without autopilot (again, not factoring gas savings).
A 7-yr old $10k Prius is certainly a more cost-effective way to get around town but so is a 20-yr old Honda Insight. But both are a lot less fun and I wouldn’t trust my family to either in an accident.
$150/hr for an electrician is cheap! I had to find one last minute for a repair at a rental in Mountain View…$400/hr and that includes travel time. That said, installing a charger is super easy to DIY although don’t tell the municipalities…$50–100 in parts and ~1hr to install a NEMA 14-50 near your electrical panel.
I don’t want a BMW or a Tesla like 98% of other Americans. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
This is very different than contract manufacturing from East Asia.
Tesla working with Europe industrial groups to mass produce electric vehicles efficiently in various locations… This is first experiment on this scale. This will lead to Europe and China getting modernized factories quicker at much cheaper price as Tesla is there guinea pig.
This construction is on provisional permit and objections will be removed or sustained depend what is the final bargaining or investments.
Second objection is that Musk is using wealth from US financial system to get close to European elites
The more he travel there the more he will be compromised. and who knows what kind of decisions he will take when under pressure. Maybe he has plans for retirement by building Imperial Palace some where in Caucaus mountains between Berlin-Shanghai. Turks are known for building Palaces/Mansions/hospitals for the elites.
Wait, but…I don’t have a tail pipe…
I don’t believe in Global Warming, Cannabis, bitcoin and EV. Sorry, but I believe in God, Guts and Gasoline. ( a song by the Budrows btw)
It’s a generational thing.
Rumor has it Los Altos is full of retired hippies smoking joints these days. The kids are launched…it’s like Woodstock all over again.
I’m a car guy and like 'em all. Toyota, Porsche, BMW all make impressive vehicles. But EVs are the future. Just wait until they start pumping Cybertrucks out of Texas. Even the coal rolling Trump supporters will get on board.
Btw global warming is real even though it is mostly out of our control because no country is willing to compromise their economy for a marginal benefit.
I have had a bunch of performance cars. They are pretty useless in BA traffic. As far as Greta, probably the most pathetic spokesperson of all time. Global warmers are religious fanatics They remind me of Rastafarians, worshipping a false god.
I hated hippies back in the day. I dislike them even more today. Nothing more pathetic than an old stoner
Greta’s naivety reminds me of the children’s crusade.
She is known as an idiot savant. Basically an idiot used by adults with an anti capitalist agenda. If she was in Russia she would have disappeared by now.
The Children’s Crusade was a failed popular crusade by European Christiansto regain the Holy Land from the Muslims, said to have taken place in 1212. The crusaders left areas of Northern France, led by Stephen of Cloyes, and Germany, led by Nicholas. The traditional narrative is likely conflated from some factual and mythical events which include the visions by a French boy and a German boy, an intention to peacefully convert Muslims in the Holy Land to Christianity, bands of children marching to Italy, and children being sold into slavery. Many children were tricked by merchants and sailed over to what they thought were the holy lands but, in reality, were slave markets.
Greta might believe that. But why would he undercut his fleet?
that 30 to 40% delivery increase is in ball park of 100k-130K units produced by Chinese factory.
i am not sure my thesis can be challenged now that zombie firms like Tesla and Apple stock market performance will depend on China.
Almost all of his cars sold in China are cheaper $35k version.
Bought more TSLA shares and speculate calls too…!
