Tesla’s trillion dollar valuation is fast approaching

That’s my point. Teslas are crap. Quality issues. Can’t be repaired. No parts. They are a subsidized toy for rich people that probably have two other cars. Sorry but the government should spend money on people that actually need help. The are not a necessity. Just greenwashing for neurotic greenies. I don’t think the working class should pay for liberals guilt. … either through gas taxes or Tesla credits. The used market will determine the actual value of EV cars.

Sorry you guys are lacking vision and understanding of the progress in lithium ion batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries will be at a point in a few years that energy density (i.e. range) will not be an issue for all vehicles except the longest-haul semis (less than 2% of market).

Recharge rate will be upped to charge up to 80% of battery in 10 minutes.

Costs will be down enough to allow EVs to be cheaper to make than ICE.

When you consider this progress (happening in a few years, not to say what’s going to happen past that), no other tech viable right now has a chance.

Fuel cells are economically and practically toast.

Swap stations are DOA, no need when recharge speeds improve AND because battery packs that are structural (improves costs and weight / range) cannot be swapped.

Folks, it’s game over and you think the game just started.

Tagged. Btw few years is a long time.

Non argument. Try again. When it is here, then say. No buying of vaporware.

Meanwhile no sale since is not swappable.

Batteries are still pretty useless… slow to charge, loose potency, expensive, hard to recycle, heavy, prone to fires, toxic. ICE cars can last 50 years. EVs are junked after 3. Depreciation is their biggest cost. I predicted ICE will be dominant for the next 40 years. Not 10 as you suggest. Politicians should be pushing plug-in hybrids. They provide almost the same empg and don’t require massive new infrastructure.
I am sure in 40 years there will as kinds of alternatives to the EVs of today. And I doubt they will have any value then compared to the 60s muscle cars today selling for over $100k.

You are expected to replace Tesla car with a new model annually just like iPhones

Environmentally a nightmare.

Elon has copied many Apple business and design concepts:
a. Talk technical during events
b. Single structure car chassis
c. Non-removable Lithium battery

So Elon should allow trading in of old Tesla cars :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Did any1 do a profile of Tesla car owners? Mostly techies? So far, all those I know are SWEs and data scientists.

We know that. Who in the world ask their wives to sign a post-nuptial agreement with a mediation confidentiality clause?

Elon is Dr Evil. The Trump of tech. Very few of his followers on here actually bought Teslas. Most just buy the stock. The dream is way more seductive than the reality of owning an EV.
Wishful thinking?

Tesla already has a pilot line making new battery cells that meet those specs - except for recharge rate. I think they also meet recharge rate, but no mention of it to avoid Osborne of current products. We’ll see though.

Either way they will keep increasing silicon content of anode which will improve recharge speeda

You are AAPL favorite, hiding the facts.

Now, Apple becomes a copy cat. It never had any EV vision.

Tesla started way back pre-IPO around 2004/2005 with vision about EV cars. Apple was not in the race at all. Once TSLA came to $350 (pre-split), Apple was hiring tesla people (both side had legal disputes).

My son uses samsung phone and I use iphone. For smart phone, everything introduced first by samsang and then it comes to Apple. Even now, Samsung introduces all new functionality. Once it has become famous (like wireless charging), apple introduces after an year.

I never shorted Tesla. In fact, I’ve been writing a lot of Tesla put options (for income) last few years until fall and held a bit of longs until Friday last week. I’m actually considering buying some put options at some point. I think it’s still early. Too much euphoria still but folks shorting are pretty much gone (float only 5% i believe). I cannot wait until it falls to the bottom and I’ll ride it. Don’t get me wrong though. I love what Tesla stands for and I think Elon Musk is a generational entrepreneur.

You still don’t understand Apple like you don’t understand EWT. Read up more. There are tons of public info on Apple.

Hint: Selling 200 million iPhones of high quality is not the same as selling 10 million xxx model of xxx brand of lower quality. I can always sell you the latest features/ functionalities if I only sell 10 units per year for $10k per unit. However, I can’t add those features/ functionalities if I am selling 200 million per year at $1k per unit. I have to wait for reasonable manufacturing yield to achieve the $1k per unit price point. So if I am selling only 10 units, I can always launch those features/ functionalities earlier than if I am aiming to sell 200 million units. Another hint: Samsung is a supplier to Apple, Apple has to give them multi-year plan. There are a lot more … read up on the web.

Apple Car is not out yet. Jump into judgement? Bad habit.

First, I am not talking about Apple sales or future. It is about copy cat attitude of Apple functionality.

Last 5 years, I have seen new functionalities are introduced by Samsung at least one year ahead. Once that functionality is widely used, Apple copies and adapt in their new iphones.

For example: Wireless charging was introduced by Samsung. At that time my son bought new samsung and I bought new iPhone (lacking wireless charging). Now, it has become norm in iPhone !

Same way, when TSLA showed practically EV, then apple started hiring lot of TSLA people (then fired them too).

Tesla is original and Apple is copycat !

Such news was available everywhere and Elon legally objected and then it restricted to some extend !

I will cut n paste my previous reply. Your comment show lack of understanding in manufacturing. Talking like a certain dragon trapped in 7x7. Actually you might as well say Apple copy everybody in introducing telecom chips - is always few years behind - starting from first version of iPhone, is 2G when everybody is introducing 3G. Introducing first doesn’t mean innovation! This is f… logic.

Sound like some1 who can’t get a job in Apple would say. Tech companies poach from each other regularly.

Those articles you posted obviously from TSLA lover-AAPL hater. Pretty sure TSLA poaches a lot of Apple engineers. TC won’t resort to such lowly technique of bribing encouraging journalists to publish such opinion pieces. I repeat, tech companies poach from each other regularly.

You should ask why do they leave, " As Electrek reported earlier this month, MacManus was one of three VP-level executives to leave Tesla within a week. "

According to the article, “Apple and Tesla have been engaged in what some have called a “poaching war” over the last several years.” I see you didn’t read the article. Just search the headlines and link. Another bad habit like a certain dragon from 7x7.

Have you followed SJ’s comments now and then about car/ transportation, you know SJ already have a vision for AV when he returned in 1997. What is happening internally is figuring out the go-to market strategy. My view is TC might be too ethnical and too careful.

With all this talk about people getting new tax credits to buy electric cars I looked at Rivian because their product is far more suited to my needs than Tesla. No charging network yet but that doesn’t matter to me because there are practically no Tesla chargers anywhere I go.
Specs looked great but again charging time was a deal killer. 19 hours to get a full charge. With Tesla’s more limited capabilities it takes “only” 11 hours. Doesn’t work for most people unless it’s a second car and the other car is gas. Rivian is building a charging network but that brings up a whole different issue - each manufacturer needing its own network because everyone uses a different battery system. As opposed to all gas cars using the same fuel. The whole electric market will saturate much faster than folks realize - at least in the US. Look at “green” Germany where gas is almost $6 a gallon. Electric cars aren’t even 1% of their fleet.
Why does anyone think this is ever going to take off?

Democrats push for it.

How? Even at $10 a gallon gas people won’t go for it. It may make some sense in the super-high density urban settings of some Asian countries but even then the 125 cc scutter - the standard of transporation for most of the human race - comes out ahead.
If the Europeans can’t force people into these things with their Paris Accord and all how could the Democrats pull it off here?

Current design of TSLA is not good, it requires charging stations. NIO cars don’t need charging stations. Just go to any petrol stations and swap the battery in under 5 mins. Such EVs are better suited for urbanized city with mostly multi-story apartments and condos. TSLA cars are designed for SFHs, is a status symbol, not so practical for most people.

OK this makes sense. Maybe in a few years they’ll be something worth looking at.
As for current US tech I looked at Tesla chargers on the way to my desert getaway in Marana. Once I get past Payson there’s one (1) that I would have to detour 6 miles out of my way to get to. Here’s the Google review of it -
“It’s not a supercharger but I got about 20mi/hr out of it.”
WTF? What good would that do me on a 400 mile round trip - which is not unusual.
I looked up 110 charging as that is available mos anywhere. 3-4 miles PER HOUR. Today I WALKED 15 miles with 2800 ft elevation gain/loss over rugged terrain in 5 1/2 hours - counting stops for glugs of coffee and eating my sandwich. That’s 2.7 mph. So I can WALK somewhere almost as fast as one can charge an electric car on 110.
Swapable batteries - sure. But the current state of things is a technological joke.

Superchargers add up to 360 mi/hr (140 kW). If there’s nothing between Payson and Marana, that’s a bummer. On more well-traveled routes they’re all over the place. Bet there weren’t any gas stations in Marana in the early days of automobiles either.

Level 1 charging (110v) is indeed painfully slow. Level 2 at home is great for everything but road trips – don’t even have to think about range, you wake up with a full tank every morning.
