How Trump has handled the pandemic

Even if there’s a supply shortage, coordinating procurement is a pretty obvious thing to do when you are dealing with this many states/hospitals.

I don’t understand why that’s confusing?

it doesn’t seem like there’s anything out there to procure. Unless the gov’t is going to search homes and confiscate masks, the companies that are making them should be coordinating directly with the hospitals. I also don’t see why the gov’t is involved except to order someone to convert their factory to making masks. Which could be useful…

How many hospitals are there? How many different purchasing systems and owners do they have? How do you quickly aggregate demand, add up supply, then decide who gets what? Then you’ll have people blaming the government for picking who lives and dies by who gets supplies.

These aren’t trivial problems. Companies have huge teams and ML algorithms to do the work.

Most crisis are simple with one location like a hurricane. Everyone sends supplies to a single place. This is an entirely different ball game.

Personally, I’d call Tim Cook and Jeff Williams and ask them to come lead it. Bring in some supply chain experts from amazon, and then maybe there’s a chance of a reasonable outcome. They’d be figuring it out on the fly, but then at least it’d be the best on the world doing it.

Vodka is the cure
According to the count released by its health ministry, Russia currently has only 253 confirmed cases of the virus. That is vastly lower than in other major countries in Western Europe, where there are already thousands of cases.

My sister works in on a hospital in Santa Clara and she said supplies are running low.

We are seeing the results of everyone running on 2-4 weeks of supplies on hand being unable to cope when there is massive increase across the board.

That’s why I don’t understand why the admin still hasn’t activated manufacturers under the defense procurement act yet. China did it by mid Jan to push their manufacturing to get needed medical supplies out

He has. They can’t just turn on manufacturing over night for products they’ve never made before. It’ll take manufacturers some time to get setup assuming there are enough raw materials in the supply chain to make the times needed.

So the narrative is Trump totally blew this, has fine everything wrong, and made it far worse. Yet, the US death line is below every western country. Hmm. What do you call what the other leaders have done then?

Many western countries’ leaders have dropped the ball too. Easy call. It’s up to the Spaniards and the Italians to question their own governments. I am American, I find my government’s response lacking, and I say it.

If you read the follow up reports, while the act has been activated, no one has been requested under it

Trump thinks the media is worse than the virus. Definitely the shutting down of the economy is worse than the virus. But no one wants to seethe hospital system collapse . It will not only cause a lot of virus deaths but also increase the morbidity of all the other people in hospitals.

Just New York by itself will have more than 100k. It’s a war zone there.

President is saying what I have been saying on this forum for long time. The economy in shutdown
state is more dangerous than the corona virus itself. Corona virus is actually a very small threat I think the lock down will not continue for very long, political posturing aside.
